bio-bubble-n1.jpgThis week Band Badges took delivery of its first shipment of new and improved Degradable Bubble wrap.

Pack & Wrap - Degradable Bubble by Platta is made in Australia and contains totally degradable plastic additives (TDPA)  that are blended into the resins during production.

Mechanisms that trigger the process of oxidative degradation are heat input and sunlight (UV light).  This bubble wrap will break down in the presence of moisture, micro-organisms, oxygen and soil.

The Bicycle Film Festival

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

In 2001, Brendt Barbur, Founder and Director, was compelled to start the Bicycle Film Festival after being hit by a bus while riding his bike in New York City. Instead of being deterred by this experience, it inspired him to create a festival that celebrates the bicycle through music, art, and film. Now in its ninth year the festival is held in 39 cities worldwide. 250,000 people are expected to attend this year.

The Bicycle Film Festival celebrates the bicycle in all forms and styles. If you can name it - Tall Bike Jousting, Track Bikes, BMX, Alleycats, Critical Mass, Bike Polo, Road Cycling, Mountain Biking Recumbents - we’ve probably either ridden or screened it. What better way to celebrate these lifestyles than through art, film, music and performance?

The Bicycle Film Festival is on now across Australia and across the world through out November, view the Bicycle Film Festival program here and visit their webiste proper for all the pedal powered action at http://www.bicyclefilmfestival.com/

National Children’s Week Oct. 24th - Nov. 1st 2009

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Children’s Week is an annual event celebrated in Australia during the fourth week in October. In 1996 it was decided to adopt a permanent theme: “A Caring World Shares” as a reflection of Children’s Week aims while at the same time acknowledging the designated year on national posters and other printed materials.

A diverse range of events and activities are organised at National, State and Local levels. These focus the attention of the wider community on children, their needs and achievements.

Children’s Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood. It is also a time for children to demonstrate their talents, skills and abilities.

Thousands of children and their families around the country are involved in activities and events during “The Week” through the participation of schools, playgroups, childcare, kindergartens, cultural groups, libraries, departments and community groups.

Designated by the nations of the world, Universal Children’s Day calls society to a greater response to the plight of many millions of children around the world who are denied the basic necessities of a happy childhood and the education to develop their capacities. It also calls us in Australia to consider those conditions in society which affect the lives and future of our own children.

The mission of the Children’s Week Council of Australia is to encourage, support, guide co-ordinate and monitor the widest possible participation of all States and Territories in Children’s Week, ensuring that programs and activities are open to all children regardless of race, colour, sex, ability, religion, nationality or social origin.

Rose Street Artist Market

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Roughly based on similar projects in London, Berlin and in particular the DUMBO Collective; a market set up by artists under the Brooklyn Bridge in New York - The Rose St. Artists’ Market utilises a former junkyard in the back streets of Fitzroy to display the work of up to 70 artists and designers each Saturday and Sunday, some emerging and some more established.

In a city brimming with creativity, there’s no telling what products you might find. From quirky furniture design and stunning fashion through to intricate jewellery and unique paintings. In fact, over 600 individuals are listed on our growing catalogue of artists and designers here each week selling everything from the wacky to the wonderful!

The Rose St. Artists’ Market has taken a fresh approach to the traditional market concept giving you the opportunity peruse the numerous displays, collect, source and commission unique works; and of course meet, greet and speak with artists and designers in person.

Be sure to head to the Rose Street Artist Market on any given Saturday, great gifts, great people and badges, badges badges!

The Blue Button Campaign is simple.

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

The Blue Button Campaign is simple. Support free speech online and let the world know that you do by displaying it proudly. All proceeds of the Blue Buttons go towards aiding the Digital Liberty Coalition in their ongoing fight to uphold basic civil liberties on the internet, and will be used to spread the message to more and more people through a variety of different marketing and direct action methods.

The Digital Liberty Coalition is the only non-profit online civil liberty association supporting direct action and lobbying to raise awareness and demonstrate dissent to policies that involve censorship in a digital medium.

The DLC has co-ordinated (and is working on more) large-scale events in every major city in Australia and continues to spread the message about ‘net censorship to an ever-growing audience.

The DLC / The Blue Button Campaign will hold a demonstration, this Saturday 1PM is Canberra, but for those who can’t make it we will be hosting rallies in all capital cities again on the 27th of June.
